Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restriction) Acts.—No
applications for certificates under the provisions of the above were received.
Tents and Vans.—By-laws regulating the use of these were made by the
Council in 1903. All tents and vans (which are few in number) were inspected
regularly and steps were taken to ensure that the by-laws were being observed.
The total number of inspections made was 55.
Houses Let in Lodgings.—No register is now kept of houses let in lodgings,
but as the records of this Department in respect of individual houses are kept on
cards, such houses are kept prominently before the district sanitary inspectors by
means of "signals" on the cards which serve as reminders to the inspectors that
they are dealing with houses that would formerly have been registered. During
the year 454 inspections of such houses were made.
New Houses.—The following Table No. 45, shows the number of certificates
of a proper and sufficient supply of water for new houses granted by the Public
Health Committee at each of their meetings. Of these, 314 were in respect of
houses built by the Council.
