If the rates in St. Mary's, River and St. George's Wards and in Woolwich
parish are compared with those of previous years, it must be borne in mind that
from 1915 to 1931 these rates were calculated on the civilian population and not
on the total population.
Births.
During the year 2,414 births were registered in the Borough, 1,242 being
males and 1,172 females. Corrected by outward (292 males and 302 females)
and inward (129 males and 104 females) transfers, these numbers become 2,053,
1,079 and 974 respectively.
The birth rate was 14.0, compared with 13.7 in 1934 and 12.7 in 1933.
