If the rates in St. Mary's, River and St. George's Wards and in Woolwich parish
are compared with those of previous years, it must be borne in mind that from
1915 to 1931 these rates were calculated on the civilian population and not on the
total population.
Births.
During the year, 2,349 births were registered in the Borough, 1,177 being males
and 1,172 females. Corrected by outward (254 males and 292 females) and inward
(96 males and 101 females) transfers, these numbers become 2,000, 1,019 and 981
respectively.
The birth rate was 13.7, compared with 12.7 in 1933 and 14.0 in 1932.
