(c) Health Lectures to Adults.—Two lectures were given at the Town
Hall, as follows:—
Date.
1931. Subject. Lecturer.
January 26th "Sunlight and Education" Dr. R. Forgan, M.P.
March 16th "How to Enjoy Life" Sir Robert Armstrong-Jones
Either in conjunction with each lecture, or immediately afterwards, lantern
slides or cinema films were shewn.
(d) Informal Talks.—In 1929, a scheme for providing health talks to local
organisations at their own meeting-place, was started, and has continued ever
since. The speakers are all members of the Public Health staff, who talk on the
particular work they are engaged on. The programme usually consists of a fifteen
to twenty-minute talk, followed by question and answer, and then a cinema
film is shewn.
(e) "Better Health."—The issue of a local edition of this journal, inaugurated
in 1930, was continued, and during the year 2,000 copies per month were distributed
by the Medical Officer of Health through the welfare centres, libraries, schools, and
to a limited number of residents in the borough selected at random. The journal is
much appreciated. In the local pages, the opportunity is taken of advertising the
Council's health services, and short articles are often published on matters of current
interest.
(f) Health Services Booklet.—A booklet of 16 pages, giving details of the
Council's health services was published during the year. It may be obtained free
of charge from the Health Department.
