The Health Centre at Westhorne Avenue was fully described in the Maternity
and Child Welfare section of the Annual Report for 1930.
During the year an arrangement was entered into with the local Medical
Association whereby the necessary accommodation for the examination and treatment
of school children was reserved at the Health Centre, Eltham, in accordance
with the terms of an agreement similar to that entered into with the same Association
for the use of the Council's welfare centre at Plumstead for dental sessions
on two days a week, but with this difference—the dental clinics at Plumstead
Centre are held on different days in the same rooms as are used for maternity and
child welfare purposes, whereas at the Eltham Health Centre there are separate
sets of rooms.
x. Maternal Mortality.
In accordance with the terms of the Ministry of Health Circular 888, confidential
enquiries are made by the Council's medical officers into every maternal death,
and reports are furnished to the Ministry of Health. The services of a Consultant
burgeon have been made available for consultation and treatment in cases of
puerperal fever or puerperal pyrexia. Arrangements have been made for bacteriological
examination in such cases and for home nursing.
