During the year the Council entered into an agreement with the London County
Council for the conveyance of non-urgent maternity cases between 8 a.m. and
11 p.m., on payment by the Borough Council in accordance with the rates set out
in the following schedule:—
For removal of a maternity case:—
5s. 0d., or at the rate of 1s. 0d. a mile, whichever is the less, with a
minimum charge of 3s. 6d. Mileage to be reckoned from the ambulance
station nearest to the patient's address including the return journey
to that station.
For the provision of a nurse to accompany the case:—
5s. 0d. for a period of up to two hours, and thereafter at an extra charge
of 2s. 0d. an hour or part of an hour.
For waiting:—
5s. 0d. an hour or part of an hour after 15 minutes.
ix. Clinics and Treatment Centres.
In tabular form below is shewn a list of clinics and treatment centres in the
Borough. This list differs from the one published last year in the following
respects:—
Maternity and Child Welfare.—(a) The Centre at 179, Well Hall Road, Elthain,
was closed and the work transferred to the Council's new Welfare Centre at
Westhorne Avenue, Eltham.
(b) A new Maternity and Child Welfare Centre was opened at St. Luke's Church
Hall, Westmount Road, Eltham.
School Clinics.—The School Clinic at Park Place, Eltham, was closed and the
work transferred to the Council's Health Centre in Westhorne Avenue.
Tuberculosis Dispensary.—A branch Tuberculosis Dispensary was opened at
179, Well Hall Road, Eltham.
Venereal Diseases.—Persons requiring treatment for venereal disease can
attend one of the London Hospitals, the nearest to the Borough being the Seamen's
Hospital, Greenwich, and St. John's Hospital, Lewisham.
