Causes of Death.—Table No. 10 shews that 367 deaths were due to Heart
Disease, 220 to Cancer, 168 to Tuberculosis, 126 to Pneumonia, 91 to Bronchitis,
and 75 to Cerebral Haemorrhage. There were 62 deaths from Congenital Debility
and Prematurity. In every instance these figures are above those of 1930. There
were 34 deaths from Influenza, compared with 13 in 1930, but there was only one
death from Measles, as against 15. Seventy-two per cent, of all deaths occurred
in persons over 45 years of age.
Respiratory Disease.—The following Table, No. 12, shews the number of deaths
each year since 1927 from respiratory diseases, the annual death rate, the number
of deaths under five years of age, and the percentage of deaths occurring in children
under five years of age.

Cancer.—The total number of deaths was 220, of which 125 occurred in males
and 95 in females. In the following Table, No. 13, is shewn the number of deaths
certified as due to Cancer and Malignant Disease, each year since 1927 :—
