Marriages.
There were 1,250 marriages (1,082 in 1930). The marriage rate was 17.05,
as compared with 13.9, 17.7, 14.1 and 15.3 in the four preceding years.
Deaths.
The total deaths registered in the Borough was 1,485. This figure includes
166 non-residents who died in the district, but does not include 335 residents who
died outside the Borough. When allowance is made for inward and outward transfers
the nett figure of 1,654 is obtained. The death rate for the year was 11 '6,
compared with 10.9 in 1930 and 12.6 in 1929.
In four of the Metropolitan boroughs lower death rates were recorded as under :—
Lewisham, 10.2; Greenwich, 114; Wandsworth, 114; and Hackney 11.5.
In 1931 the death rate for England and Wales was 12.3, for London 12.4, and
the mean death rate for 107 County Boroughs and Great Towns (including London)
was 126.
The seasonal mortality in the four quarters of the year was as follows:—
First Quarter, 15.2; Second Quarter, 10.4; Third Quarter, 9.4; Fourth Quarter,
11.0.
Deaths in Public Institutions.—In tabular form is shewn below the number of
deaths of Woolwich residents which took place in various institutions during the
year:—
