Cerebrospinal Meningitis.
Two cases were notified during the year, and in both instances the diagnosis
was confirmed. The following Table gives the details of each case:—

Anterior Poliomyelitis.
Two notifications were received and in both instances the diagnosis was
confirmed.
Nursing assistance is provided for such cases, but was not utilised during the
year. Both cases were treated in hospital.
Zymotic Enteritis.
Twenty-two cases of this disease were notified during the year, compared with
8 cases in 1929. The number of deaths in children under two years of age certified
as due to Enteritis or Diarrhoea was 10.
Whooping Cough.
During the year 73 cases of Whooping Cough came to the knowledge of the
Department from the School Medical Service, compared with 327 in 1929. As
this disease is not notifiable in the Borough, knowledge can only be obtained of
cases from this source. Nursing assistance is provided for this disease but was
not utilised during the year.
Deaths.—There was only one death from Whooping Cough during the year,
compared with 22 in 1929.
Measles.
This disease is not notifiable in the Borough, but from various sources the
Department learned of 2,702 cases, compared with 151 in 1929 and 2,418 in 1928.
Deaths.—There were 15 deaths from Measles during the year, 14 of which
were in children under 5 years of age.
Home Nursing.—Nursing assistance was provided in 66 cases, the number of
visits paid was 521, and the cost to the Council was £26 1s. 6d.
