Scarlet Fever.
Notification.—During the year 627 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified, compared
with 567 in 1929 and 529 in 1928. There were 24 military cases. The case—
rates for the various old registration districts of the Borough are given in detail
in Table No. 54. The number of notifications received each quarter was as follows:—
First quarter 180 Third quarter 143
Second quarter 159 Fourth quarter 145
Deaths.—There were five deaths from Scarlet Fever during the year, including
two in children under five years of age. In 1929 the number of deaths was three.
Home Isolation.—Thirty—one cases, or 4.9 per cent., were isolated at home,
and in no instance did a return case occur. The same procedure as in Diphtheria
was carried out.
Dick Test.—This has not been employed in the area so far as I am aware.
Multiple Cases.—The following Table shows the house distribution by wards.
The term "house" is synonymous with the term "family" except in 15 instances
where two families were involved.
