The Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.—Each district inspector is the
rats officer for his area and investigates all complaints received. The number of
complaints (244) is a somewhat higher figure than 1929. In 31 instances defective
drains were repaired, 11 premises were rat-proofed, and other effective measures
taken in 7 instances. National Rat Week was held from the 3rd to the 8th November,
and during it co-operation was obtained from the Borough Engineer and many
large firms in the Borough. The number of baits laid in old sewers in Woolwich
and Plumstead, which were regarded as infested, was 13,975.
Offensive Trades.—There are no offensive trades in the Borough.
Rag Flock Acts.—Five samples of rag flock were taken for analysis and the
following Table gives the results. All these samples complied with the Rag
Flock Regidations inasmuch as the soluble chlorine in the form of chlorides
did not exceed 30 parts of chlorine in 100,000 parts of flock, which is the maximum
amount allowed by the Regulations. Rag flock is prepared by one wholesale
manufacturer, and is used in several workshops and sold at several shops in the
Borough.
