Causes of Death.—Table No. 12 shows that 361 deaths were due to heart disease,
201 to Cancer, 150 to Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 101 to Pneumonia, 75 to Cerebral
Haemorrhage, and 61 to Bronchitis. There were 43 deaths from Congenital
Debility and Prematurity. Only 13 deaths occurred through Influenza, and 15
through Measles. Seventy.two per cent. of all deaths occurred in persons over
45 years of age.
Respiratory Diseases.—The following Table, No. 14, shows the number of deaths
each year since 1912 from respiratory diseases, the annual death rate, the number
of deaths under five years of age and the percentage of deaths occurring in children
under five years of age.
