In maternity and child welfare work the outstanding features of the year were
two in number, namely, the institution of a scheme for the medical inspection and
treatment of the toddler, and the building of a new Health Centre at Eltham.
This Centre is the first Municipal one in London to be built for Maternity and Child
Welfare work and for the treatment of school children.
The attendances at the Centres continue to increase every year, and in all
numbered 52,079 during 1930.
In conclusion, it is my pleasant duty to thank the members of the Health Committees,
and the Council generally, for the support and kindly consideration they
have given and shewn throughout the year. It delights me to say also, how much
I appreciate the manner in which the staff of the Department have carried out their
duties at all times during the year.
I am,
Madam Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
JOHN MACMILLAN,
Medical Officer of Health.
