Social Conditions. The Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich
comprises the three Civil Parishes of Woolwich, Plumstead
and Eltham, and covers an area of 8,282 statute acres. The
River Thames covers approximately 645 acres. The Borough
is divided into the two Parliamentary Divisions of East
Woolwich and West Woolwich, and is further subdivided
into fourteen Wards. Much of the Borough is unbuilt on
and the number of persons per acre varies from 11 in Eltham
to 31 in Woolwich—the general average of the Borough
being 18.
