that a patient so treated may be liable to relapses of malaria,
to notify the case to the Medical Officer of Health of the
district in which the patient proposes to reside four days
before his discharge. One such notification was received
during the year.
PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
Notification. Forty.eight notifications were received in
respect of these diseases. Seventeen women were notified
as suffering from puerperal fever, 28 from puerperal pyrexia
and, in the other three, the original diagnosis of puerperal
pyrexia was altered to puerperal fever. In 1927 the total
notifications were 38.

In Table No. 58 below is shown, divided according to diagnosis, the place of confinement in each of these cases.

Treatment. The Council's scheme for the diagnosis and
treatment of these conditions is described in the Maternity
and Child Welfare Section of the report, but in the next
Table, No. 59, is shown the extent to which hospital treatment
was ultimately made use of.
