pared with 22.33 in 1926, which was the lowest figure ever
recorded. Of 51 neo-natal deaths, 33 were certified as due
to premature birth.
Deaths of Illegitimate Children. The number of deaths
of illegitimate infants was 2. A comparison of the infantile
mortality rates of legitimate and illegitimate infants shews
that the rate for legitimate was 43, and for illegitimate 30.
These figures are somewhat unusual.
For the purpose of record, Tables are set out in the following
pages which classify in various ways, by sex, by age
and by district, the causes of death during 1927. In addition,
Table No. 24 has been constructed to shew the death rate
from stated groups of diseases in each five-yearly period
since 1901, and a comparative study of the causes of death
in the three years in which the infantile death rate was lowest,
namely, 1923, 1926 and 1927.
