This work, which was done by Dr. C. I. Wright, was
carried on throughout the year.
Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions
Act, 1925. In January a letter was received from the Ministry
of Health, asking for investigation into the circumstances
of a representation made under the above Act with reference
to the administration of a pension to a widow and her child.
The Woolwich Invalid Children's Aid Association represented
that a prolonged convalescent treatment was arranged for
the child and that the woman had arranged to pay to the
association the child's allowance under the Act. These payments
fell into arrears and the Association asked that the
allowance should be diverted to them. After careful investigation,
the Minister was informed that the Council were of
opinion that it was in the interests of the child that the
additional allowance should be administered by the Woolwich
Invalid Children's Aid Association so long as the child was
at the home referred to. Subsequently, the Council were
informed that the Minister, acting in accordance with Section
6 (2) of the Act had directed that as from 7th March, 1927.
the allowance payable under the Act in respect of the child
should be paid to the Woolwich Invalid Children's Aid
Association, to be administered for the benefit of the child.
Supply of Milk, etc., to Necessitous, Expectant and Nursing
