Contacts. Contacts are those persons who are examined
by reason of the fact that they have recently been, or still
are, living in contact with a dispensary patient or other
notified case. It does not include those persons who may
give a history of previous contact with a case of tuberculosis.
Such cases are graded as new cases for the purposes of Table
No. 67. The definition is the official one of the Ministry of
Health and is laid down in Memorandum 121 T. It is clear
that such a definition limits the numbers who would be
regarded as contacts by the medical profession and by the
general public. Even when allowance is made for this the
number of "contacts" who present themselves for examinations
each year is disappointing, particularly when it is
remembered that special arrangements are made and appointments
fixed for their examination.
