puerperium and were not puerperal infection, but some of
them should have been notified as puerperal fever. The
number of cases treated in hospital was 27, viz., 6 in hospitals
of the Metropolitan Asylums Board, 7 in Maternity Hospitals,
10 in Poor Law Institutions, 3 in Cottage Hospitals, and one
in a general hospital. The number of deaths was three.
The Council's scheme for the administration of the Public
Health (Puerperal Fever and Puerperal Pyrexia) Regulations,
1926, is referred to in detail in the Maternity and Child
Welfare Section.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM.
During the year 19 cases of Ophthalmia Neonatorum
were notified, and 7 cases were treated in hospital. In
tabular form is shown below, as required by the Ministry of
Health, the result of each case.
