the year 20 patients received treatment, the total number of
attendances being 56. Patients receive dental treatment free,
and, if dentures are required, patients are assessed according
to their means, each case being treated on its merits. Dentures
were supplied in 17 cases at a cost of £69 4s. 6d., and during
the year the income received under this head was £15 16s. Od.
Shelters. Two new shelters were provided during the
year, the total now available being 13. These have been
used generally throughout the year, but, in certain instances,
it was difficult to get patients to continue their use during
the winter.
Bacteriological Examinations. During the year 515 specimens
of sputum were examined at the Dispensary, of which
105 were positive, and 410 negative. These were in addition
to the 256 specimens of sputum sent by medical practitioners
to the Seamen's Hospital, Greenwich, for examination, of
which 69 were positive and 187 negative.
Institutional Treatment. The following Table shows the
number of admissions to hospitals, sanatoria, Poor Law
institutions and training colonies.
