Inhabited House Duty.—No certificate under the Inland
Revenue Act was issued during 1921, but 4 applications were
refused.
Rats.—During the year 220 complaints were received
relating to rats and these were all investigated and dealt with
under the Rata and Mice (Destruction) Act. A rat week
was held during the last week in November and by arrangement
with the Works Department, baits were laid in the
sewer manholes in the areas where the sewers are old and
likely to be infested with rats.
Rag Flock Act. No samples were taken during the year.
Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions)
Act, 1920. During the year 14 applications were made for
certificates. In each case the owner was notified that a
certificate had been applied for, and notices were served for
the abatement of the nuisances existing. As a result, only 8
certificates were issued, a report (i.e., sufficient cause has not
been made out for the issue of a certificate) being issued in
the other instances.
Factories, Workshops and Workplaces. The total number
of factories, workshops and workplaces on the register at the
end of the year was 195. The number of inspections, 971,
compares with 310 for last year and 502 in 1919. It was
found necessary to serve 54 notices, compared with 60 in
1920. With regard to outworkers, it may be said that the
conditions under which outwork is carried out in Woolwich
are satisfactory. The following tables are in the form
adopted by the Home Office for the guidance of Medical
Officers of Health so as to ensure uniformity in the presentation
of statistics:—
