Dust Removal.
28. In Woolwich Parish 5,769 loads of house, and 157
loads of trade refuse were removed by direct labour, and
destroyed at the Woolwich destructor. In the three preceding
years 6,477, 5,951, and 6,912, loads, respectively,
were removed.
In Plumstead, 16,597 loads, weighing 13,059 tons were removed
by the Contractor, Messrs. Tuff & Hoar, and destroyed
at the Plumstead destructor. £2,847 14s. 1d. was paid for
collection, compared with £2,805 17s. 7d. in 1910.
In Eltham, the sum of £866 18s. 8d., compared with £840
9s. 10d. in 1910, was paid to the Contractor, Mr. Tucker, for
removal of dust. The Contractor on the whole complied
with the requirements of the Contract. The shoot was kept
in a satisfactory state, in some frields well away from any
houses.
Trade Refuse.
29. During the past year there have been 7,094 (7,461
in 1910) receptacles of offensive trade refuse removed. The
weight of refuse was 354 tons. There are now 48, (53 in
1910) tradesmen on the books, from whom offensive trade
refuse is removed. There was no complaint of nuisance
arising from collection. Chloride of lime is used as a
deodorant.
The charge made for inoffensive refuse is 1s. 6d. per
load, and 2d. per bushel, and for offensive refuse at the
rate of 3d. a receptacle, charged per quarter in advance on
the amount collected in the previous quarter.
