3. At the Census there were 234 unoccupied houses in the
Borough, viz., 46 in Woolwich, 86 in Plumstead, and 102 in
Eltham.
The following return of empty houses in the Borough, on
July 25th, 1909, has been kindly supplied me by the Clerk to
the Bating Committee:—
Woolwich Parish—
Dockyard Ward 107
St. Mary's Ward 76
River Ward 207
St. George's Ward 77
467
Plumstead Parish—
Burrage Ward 66
Herbert Ward 85
Glyndon Ward 67
St. Margaret's Ward 130
Central Ward 52
St. Nicholas's Ward 249
649
Eltham Parish 160
Total 1276
Thus the number of empty houses has increased tenfold in
Woolwich Parish, and seven times in Plumstead, but has
changed little in Eltham.
4. The following table gives for each Ward the population
and number of inhabited houses at the Census, the number of
persons to a house, the number of new houses certified for
water certificates, and the present estimated population. The
populations of the wards are estimated by the number of
occupied houses in each ward.
