Public Ambulance.
49. The Public Ambulance, for accidents and non-infectious
illness, was used 123 times, compared with 97, 110, 104, 122
and 143, in the five preceding years. The following were the
journeys made:—
To Guy's Hospital 43
Cottage Hospitals 25
Seamen's and Miller Hospitals 6
King's Hospital 7
St. Thomas's 1
London 5
Charing Cross 1
Union Infirmary 5
Other hospitals 5
Private houses 25
Particulars of this ambulance were given in my Annual
Report 1903, page 78. The ambulance is kept in good repair.
Notices and Prosecutions.
50. 2991 written intimation notices, and 550 statutory
notices were served. 66 of the latter, not having been complied
with in the time specified, were referred to the Town
Clerk, who, before taking proceedings, wrote a warning letter
in each case. Finally seven defaulters were summoned at the
Police Court. The results are given in Table XVII.
bacteriological examination.
51. 951 bacteriological examinations were made for the
Public Health Department by the Lister Institute, viz., 757 for
Diphtheria, 179 for Phthisis, and 15 for Enteric Fever. The
total cost was £148 18s. 10d., compared with £164 14s. 10d.,
in 1908.
