Infirmary. 13 others were notified by the District Medical
Officers of the Poor Law Unions, 16 by the Medical Officers of
the Eoyal Arsenal, and the remainder by clergymen, philanthropic
societies, applicants for admission to Peppard Common
Sanatorium, and by private medical practitioners. £8 10s. 6d.
was paid during the year for the notification of phthisis.
Duration. Of the 154 cases notified during 1908, at least
29 have since died, and of 150 notified during 1907, at least 54
have since died (February 11th, 1909).
77. The source of infection of the notified cases was
probably as follows:—

78. Of the 24 adults about whom information was obtained,
2 were stated to be teetotallers, 18 temperate, and 4 intemperate.
Of the houses of notified consumptives, 9 were to some
extent dirty, 5 had dark rooms, 1 damp rooms, 3 were overcrowded,
and two had insufficient ventilation.
