Tuberculosis.
71. Deaths. There were 206 deaths from Tuberculous
disease, giving a death-rate of 160 compared with 1.86, 1.92, 2.06,
1.83, and 1.71, in the five preceding years. This is the lowest
death-rate recorded. The London death-rate was 1.95.

72. The following table gives the number of deaths from each of the various forms of tuberculosis in the past seven years, and also the deaths from simple meningitis:—

73. The deaths from phthisis were 154, giving a death-rate of
1.19 compared with 1.49, 1.39, 1.64, 1.47, and 1.29, in the five
preceding years. This is the lowest death-rate recorded; the
reduction in death-rate since 1901 represents a saving of 75 lives
last year. The following table gives the death-rate from phthisis
in each parish during the five years 1901-5 and in 1906 and 1907 compared with London.

There was a great reduction in the parish of Woolwich, but an increase in Eltham:—
