81. Of the 43 adults as to whom information was obtained, 2
were stated to be teetotalers, 25 temperate, and 16 intemperate.
Of the houses of notified consumptives, 10 were to some
extent dirty, 1 had damp walls, and 2 had dark rooms ; one was
badly ventilated and 5 were overcrowded.
Age Distribution—The following table gives the age of
notified cases:—
0--1 1—5 5—15 15—25 25—45 45—65 Over 65.

82. Occiipation. — Ofthe 130 notified males, 50 were Arsenal employees. The Departments and Workshops affected are as follows:—

S3. Bacteriological Diagnosis.—Sputum from 130 cases of
suspected phthisis was examined at the Lister Institute, and
tubercle bacilli were found in 50 cases. The number of examinations
for the four previous years were 36, 144, 116, and 130
respectively.
