Correction lias been made this year for the first time for births
in the Wood Street "Home for Mothers and Babies" and the
births distributed to the Wards to which they properly belong.
This mainly accounts for the apparent fall in the Dockyard
birth-rate.
7. The following table gives the birth-rate for the Borough
and each parish for the three past quinquennia. Except in
Eltham the decrease has been progressive in each parish, but
greater in Plumstead than in Woolwich. In Eltham, on the
other hand, after a decrease in the second quinquenium, there
was a marked increase in the third, due. no doubt, to the building

of the Well Hall Estate and its occupation by a large proportion of young married people.
