I reported to you on the principal resolutions on the 16th
November.
London County Council Conference re Vagrants
and Infectious Disease.
53. This Conference was called mainly to discuss what
further measures might be taken to limit the spread of Smallpox
through Vagrants. Councillor Pringle and your Medical
Officer of Health represented your Council. The resolutions of
the Conference are contained in the Minutes of your Meeting
on the 22nd December, p. 132.
Sanitary Staff.
54. During the year, Inspector Mackie resigned his office,
and Mr. Powell was appointed Sanitary Inspector to succeed
him. The first lady Inspector was also appointed in the person
of Miss Middlebrooke. Mr. Powell commenced work 18th
April, and Miss Middlebrooke 7th July.
Miss Middlebrooke was provided with a bicycle, making a
total of six bicycles now provided for the Department. I
presented in December a special report by Miss Middlebrooke
on her work (see Appendix V.).
Inspector Powell passed the examination of the Sanitary
Institute in food and meat inspection, making now four
inspectors who are thus qualified.
