difficult and uncertain, it may be that there has been a transference
from simple to tubercular meningitis, i.e., that cases which
a few years ago were called meningitis are now called tubercular
meningitis.
79. The deaths from phthisis were 171, giving a death rate
of 1.39 compared with 1.79,1.80 and 1.47 in the three preceding
years. There was thus a reduction in the four years of 23 per
cent. in phthisis mortality.
