Although the rate last year was higher than in the two preceding
years it has been exceeded six times in the twelve
years.
In London the rate was 1.70.
55. Comparing the four consecutive periods of three years
each, 1898-1900 has the lowest death-rate of any; so that there
is reason to think that the efforts made in recent years to
prevent the conveyance of tubercular infection have been to
some extent successful.
56. The rate in West Plumstead was 1.17, and in East 1.59.
57. Cases occurred in 80 streets: 7 each in Ann Street and
Villas Road, 6 in Maxey Road, 4 each in Glyndon Road, Burrage
Road, Barth Road, and Kashgar Road, 3 each in Sandy
Hill Road, Reidhaven Road, High Street, and Vicarage Park,
and 2 each in Lakedale Road, Palmerston Road, Bramblebury
Road, Sladedale Road, Abbey Wood, Eton Street, Glenside Road,
Crescent Road, Hargor Road, Bassant Road, Macoma Road,
Princes Road, Station Road, and Inverary Place, and 1 each in
55 other roads. Ann Street has had at least 3 cases in each of
the last three years, and Maxey Road at least 2 cases.
More than one case occurred in 1899 in each of the following :
