Births and
Birth Rate.
The number of births registered during the year were
1,323. Of these 13 were recorded as illegitimate. The
birth rate is therefore 30.9 per thousand. That for the Dockyard
being 27.8 per thousand, and for the Arsenal 33.8.

For the past five years the birth rate has been as follows:

Marriages.
There have been 579 marriages registered during the
year, in the first quarter 112, in the second 137, in the third 142, and
in the fourth 188.
Inquests and
Suicides.
There have been 58 Inquests during the year. There
have been 10 Suicides as follows:—Cut Throat 2, Hanging
1, Poison 4, Shooting 1, Drowning 1, and Suicide on Railway 1.
Mortuary.
Fifty-two bodies were received into the Mortuary, of
which 30 were of persons resident in the district, and 22 non-resident.
