The illegitimate births numbered 33 ; 12 males and 21 females.
During the year the births notified under the Notification of
Births Act have been compared with the births registered by the
Registrar of Births, and the respective figures are 996 and 1,073.
MORTALITY.
General Mortality.—There were 343 deaths of residents registered
in the Borough, and 263 of residents who died in Public
Institutions outside of the Borough, making a total of 606 deaths.

Of these 316 were of females, and 290 were of males.

The recorded general death-rate is therefore 11.5, as against
12.4 for the preceding year.
THE CAUSES OF DEATH.—These are fully set forth
in Table I., in which it will be noted that the deaths are also
apportioned to different age periods.
Comparing this table with the corresponding table of the
preceding year, the following facts are noteworthy : An increase
in the deaths from Kidney Disease and Cancer ; and a decrease
of those from Influenza, Diseases of the Lungs and Premature
Birth.
