Swimming and Slipper Baths
Four Swimming Baths are provided by the Council in the Borough.
During the year 52,430 swims were taken by adults, and 137,631 by
children and juveniles.
The water is subjected to a continuous chlorination and filtration
process, passing through the filters once every 3½ hours. 30 samples
were taken during the year for bacteriological examination and 30 for
fhemical analysis. 3 samples showed the presence of b.Coli and 21
samples revealed a low free chlorine content and/or pH value. Appropriate
measures were taken following the receipt of each report on these
samples.
The number of slipper baths taken during the year at the four Council
establishments was 205,333, which included 6,208 taken by old age pensioners
and three by unemployed persons who were admitted free of charge.
The total number of persons admitted to all sections of the Baths
and Wash houses Department, including the Laundry, was 432,468.
