INFORMATION CENTRE
The Council operates an Information Service for the public at the
Municipal Offices, 227-233, Commercial Road, E.l. (Telephone: STEpney
Green 1818).
LABORATORY FACILITIES
Bacteriological investigations for infectious diseases are carried
out on behalf of the Public Health Department by the Regional Hospital
Board's Group Laboratory, at Mile End Hospital. (See also page 40 re
Food samples).
Investigations were carried out on 140 specimens submitted by the
Medical Officer of Health and by medical practitioners in the Borough
during the year. The specimens comprised 113 faeces, 17 throat swabs
and 10 rectal swabs.
SPECIAL REPORTS OF MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
Special reports were made to the Public Health and/or Housing
Committees during the year on the following subjects
Vacant and derelict sites.
Houses in Multiple Occupation.
Chronic Bronchitis.
Air Pollution and diesel fumes.
Provision of Meals for Old People.
Home Accidents - fires caused by oil heaters.
Provision of Sanitary Accommodation in Refreshment Houses.
Registration of Ice Cream premises.
Stepney Smoke Control Order No.4.
