Malaria.
No cases of Malaria were notified during the year.
Measles.
Notifications of Measles in the Borough numbered 55.- compared with
1,344 last year. There were no deaths from the disease. Epidemics
tend to recur at intervals of just under two years.
Meningococcal Infection.
There were two notifications during the year, the same number as
last year.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
Two cases were notified during the year, neither being residents
of the Borough.
Poliomyelitis.
Two notifications of Poliomyelitis were received (one paralytic
and the other non-paralytic), the diagnosis not being confirmed in the
non-paralytic case.
Vaccination against Poliomyelitis is carried out by the Divisional
Health Department of the London County Council. Provision was first
made for young children, young persons and expectant mothers, a primary
and secondary injection being given in each case. Vaccination is now
available to all persons up to the age of 40 years.
Puerperal Pyrexia.
There were 106 notifications during the year compared with 58 in
1959. Of these, 46 were residents of the Borough.
Scabies.
Scabies is still notifiable under the County of London (Scabies)
Regulations, 1943. The number of cases formally notified was 61
compared with 49 last year.
Ninety scabies patients and contacts were treated by medicinal
baths at Branch Road Treatment Centre and their clothing disinfested,
viz:-

The number of baths given during the year totalled 124.
