There are 18 offensive businesses in the Borough. The register
comprises the following premises :

Establishment Orders of those premises marked (*) are subject to renewal
from time to time by the Council.
An application made for the. establishment of a poultry slaughterhouse
at 12, Princelet Street, was not granted.
The premises at 14> Hessel Street were taken over during the year
for the slaughtering of poultry for consumption by Mohammedans.
Premises used for slaughtering poultry at 49? Globe Road were
removed from the register, not having been used for more than 9 months.
Rodent Control.
In accordance with the requirements of the Mnistry of iigriculture,
Fisheries & Food, statistics on Rodent Control work carried out by the
Department during the year were submitted to the Mnistry. During this
period 2,835 dwellings and business premises were inspected, and 1,316
were found to be infested with mice or rats. Treatments were carried
out by the Department's Rodent Control staff to 1,042 properties found
to be infested, the charges made for servicing business premises amounting
to £369.
By the implementation of Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage by
Pests Act, 194-9) it has been found possible to clear bombed sites of
refuse which would otherwise act as possible harbourage for rats and
other vermin.
