obstructed drain within 48 hours, and if the notice is not complied with
during that time the Council may themselves execute the work and recover
the cost from the person responsible. Notices under this section
served during the year numbered 275, the Council executing the work in
40 instances.
Factories.
Under Section 128 of the Factories Act, 1937, the Medical Officer
of Health is required among other things to report to the Council in his
annual report specifically on the administration of, and furnish the
prescribed particulars with respect to, matters under the Act administered
by the Council. The prescribed particulars referred to will be found
in the Appendix, pages 62 and 63.
Fireguards.
Of the 15 fireguards examined under the Heating Appliances (Fireguards)
Regulations, 1953, six fireguards to electric fires were found
to be unsatisfactory and were withdrawn from sale.
Hairdressers.
Hairdressers and barbers premises registered by the Council under
Section 18 of the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1954,
number 142. During the year the Public Health Committee instructed
that the occupiers of two such establishments be cautioned for carrying
on business whilst they and their premises were unregistered.
