Ice Cream Premises.—The number on the register at the end of the year
was 366. 563 inspections were made and 60 notices served.

Merchandise Marks Act.—255 visits were made to Greengrocers and
Fruiterers shops and stalls and 59 notices were served for infringements of
the Act with regard to the marking of Apples and Tomatoes.
Grocers, dairies and butchers' shops were visited in connection with the
marking of imported goods, particularly butter, dried fruits and meat and
in this respect it was found necessary to serve 100 notices.
There has been a noticeable improvement in the marking of the commodities
mentioned, although it was found necessary to institute legal
proceedings in 2 cases with regard to the marking of imported meat.
Wholesale Grocers, etc.—173 visits were made to Wholesale Grocers and
21 notices were served. 83 notices were served in respect of miscellaneous
food premises.
Bakehouses.—324 inspections were made during the year.
Restaurants and Eating Houses.—There are 385 such premises in the
Borough and 567 inspections were made to them during the year. 64 notices
were served regarding their unsatisfactory condition.
Certification of Food Products for Export.—14 certificates have been
issued respecting the export of consignments of food products prepared within
the Borough:—
2 to Italy. 1 to Australia.
2 to Syria. 7 to Canada.
2 to the United States of America.
739 other certificates were issued in respect of unsound food destroyed.
Unsound Food.—1,116 inspections were made at the various wharves in
the Borough.
