Nursing in
the home.
The arrangements made with the East London Nursing Society for the
nursing of cases of Measles, Pneumonia following Measles, Ophthalmia Neonatorum,
Puerperal Fever, Puerperal Pyrexia and Pemphigus Neonatorum were
continued. The Council pay this Society Is. 3d. per visit to such cases and
1588 visits were made by them during the year, i e., 1464 Measles, 101 Ophthalmia
Neonatorum and 23 Pemphigus Neonatorum.
Midwives.
There are 11 Midwives practising in the Borough, and in addition there
are 33 employed by the voluntary associations.
Laboratory
facilities.
The midwives are under the supervision of the London County Council.
The number of bacteriological examinations made at the Mile End Hospital
on behalf of the Public Health Department during the year was 2,643. These

There were 915 specimens of sputum examined at the Tuberculosis
Dispensaries. 188 of these were found to be positive.
