The estimate of the Registrar.General to the mid.year 1936 is 207,800.
The total number of live births of Stepney residents during the year was
3,067—1,578 males and 1,489 females—or 40 more than in the previous year.
The birth.rate was 14.7 per 1,000 of the population.

Births.
4,319 births occurred in Public Institutions in the Borough, of which 2,035
belonged to Stepney and 2,284 belonged to other Boroughs.
1,452 births occurred in the East End Maternity Hospital:—
386 belonged to Stepney, and 1066 to outlying Districts.
906 births occurred in the London Hospital:—
