Of the 236 notified cases treated in the St. George's Dispensary :—
26 received treatment twice a week ;
168 received treatment once a week ;
4 received treatment every fortnight;
1 received treatment every three weeks ;
24 received treatment irregularly ;
13 received treatment once only.
To prevent overlapping I made arrangements with the Medical Officers of the
Tuberculosis Dispensaries to supply me with the necessary particulars on the forms
previously mentioned and which I supplied. Unfortunately these arrangements
proved unsatisfactory, as after a time these forms were not regularly supplied. In
February, 1914, I applied for 164 forms, which referred to patients notified during
1913 and which I had not received. 100 of these belonged to the Stepney Green
Dispensary, 52 to the Whitechapel Dispensary, and 12 to the St George's
Dispensary. I regret to say that I have had to fall back on my original plan and
arrange for the Assistant Medical Officer of Health and the Inspectors to call and
obtain the particulars in all cases.
I have already indicated the small percentage of cases of patients attended by
the three dispensaries, and therefore the small percentage of contacts examined
throughout the borough.
What of the contacts of the patients treated at the dispensaries ?
At the Stepney Green Dispensary I was informed that in some cases the nurses
were unable to gain admission into the houses of patients and in others the contacts
refused to be examined.
There are no records kept of the examination of some of the contacts examined,
but the examination of the contacts of 180 patients was made as follows :—
All the contacts were examined in 46 instances ;
Three-fourths of the contacts were examined in 39 instances;
Two-thirds of the contacts were examined in 17 instances ;
One-half of the contacts were examined in 38 instances ;
One-third of the contacts were examined in 18 instances ;
One-fourth of the contacts were examined in 22 instances.
So that in 337 instances either no contacts were examined or no records kept.
At the Whitechapel Dispensary :—
