Rooms Disinfected.
4,435 rooms were disinfected during the year, 2,301 having been occupied by
persons suffering from infectious disease, 765 by consumptives. 1,369 rooms were
in a verminous condition, and were fumigated.
About the end of June I received a communication from the Secretary of the
London Hospital that a great number of patients attended at that institution
suffering from Scabies, and for whom sulphur oaths were provided. It was suggested
that the Public Health Department should co-operate with the Hospital Authorities
whereby the bedding and clothes of these patients could be disinfected so as to
obviate re infection after treatment, which was constantly occurring This has been
done, and from July 25th until the end of December the clothing, &c., of 250 patients
were disinfected after their permission had been first obtained.
