Instructions by means of leaflets were sent to 7,880 premises where births
occurred during the year. These leaflets were printed in English and Yiddish. They
reminded the parents that Diarrhoea was not so prevalent among breast.fed children,
and the babies should not, if possible, be weaned during the hot weather. Where
the baby is hand-fed the mother was told to keep the milk free from dust, take
every care to prevent flies settling on the milk and to destroy all the flies in the
house. Instructions were also given with regard to boiling the milk directly it came
into the house, and as to the best kind of bottle to be used.
