473 specimens were bacteriologically examined, with the following results:—

One specimen passed by a patient, after taking a remedy for Tape Worm, was
examined, but no worms or ova of worms were found in the specimen.
Four tins of Condensed Milk were also examined, and the samples were found
to be badly contaminated.
Small Pox.
No case of Small Pox was notified during the year.
Scarlet Fever.
893 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year, or 470 more than in
the previous year. 855 were removed to Fever Hospitals.
173 belonged to the Lime house District, with 4 deaths ;
122 belonged to St. George-in-the-East, with 2 deaths ;
400 belonged to Mile End Old Town, with 5 deaths .
198 belonged to the White chapel District, with 3 deaths.
The Death Rate for the whole Borough was .05 per 1,000 of the population,
while that for the whole of London was .04 per 1,000.
Diphtheria and Membranous Croup.
340 cases were notified during the year, or 132 less than in the previous year,
and 329 were removed to Fever Hospitals.
78 belonged to the Lime house District, with 8 deaths, or at the rate of
15 per 1,000 of the population ;
63 belonged to St. George-in-the-East, with 8 deaths, or at the rate of
'17 per 1,000 of the population ;
