Police Court Proceedings for selling Unsound Food.
On March 12th. Mr. Joseph Rosenberg, 135, Christian Street, was
summoned for having deposited in his bakehouse liquid eggs for the purpose of
preparation for sale, the same being unfit for human food.
He was fined £15 with £3 costs.
On March 16th. Mr. Joseph Magnus, of 137, White Horse Street, was summoned
for exposing for sale tins of rabbit and tins of jam, the same being unfit
for human food.
He was fined £30, with £3 3s. costs.
On April 14th. Mr. William Darby, of 59, Elsa Street, was summoned for
exposing unsound fish for sale.
He was fined 40s. with 23s. costs.
On October 1st, Emanuel Lawrence, of 3, East Mount Street, was summoned
for exposing cherries for sale, which were unsound and unfit for human food.
He was fined £5 with 23s. costs.
On October 18th. Mr. Abraham Gross, of 3, Winterton Street, was summoned
for exposing for sale about 5½ cwt. of Greengages on a stall in Watney Street. The
defendant did not appear, and the case was adjourned for 7 days. The defendant
did not appear at the adjournment, so the Magistrate granted a warrant for his
arrest.
He was arrested on December 16th, and fined £12 12s., with £3 3s. costs,
or in default, 6 weeks hard labour.
