Infantile Mortality.
1,130 infants died under one year of age, which corresponds to a deathrate
of 118 per 1,000 births. This number is 190 less than in the previous
year. The infantile mortality throughout London was at the rate of 108 per
1,000 births.
256 belonged to the Limehouse District, or at the rate of 133 per
1,000 births.
200 belonged to St. George-in-the-East, or at the rate of 145 per
1,000 births.
391 belonged to Mile End Old Town, or at the rate of 106 per
1,000 births.
223 belonged to the Whitechapel District, or at the rate of 104 per
1,000 births.

Though the infantile mortality remains at a high figure, it shows a marked and continuous improvement, as is evident by the following table: —
