Since the beginning of 1904, special visits have been made for the purpose of detecting overcrowding. Partly due to the lowering of rents, and partly to the ample housing accommodation in the Borough as compared with previous years, overcrowding is on the decrease as evidenced by the following table :—
| Year. | Number of special visits. | Number of notices served to abate overcrowding. | Police Court proceedings. |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1904 | 12,510 | 1,489 | 23 |
| 1905 | 14,866 | 1,048 | 14 |
| 1906 | 12,618 | 805 | 10 |
