Police Court proceedings were taken in the following:—
(1) Towards the end of the preceding year a quantity of rotten eggs were
seized in a room adjoining a bakehouse in Lower Chapman Street. After fully
considering the case the Committee decided to take proceedings against the
wholesale dealer for having sold them, well knowing their condition.
At the Police Court the defendent elected to go for trial.
When the case was heard at the Sessions by the grand jury, the latter
expressed the opinion that the baker should have also been proceeded against.
The evidence of the baker was, however, an essential part of the Council's
case; and we could not proceed without his assistance.
