In addition to the drainage works carried out at the above
premises, there were a large number of houses where sanitary
defects existed, such as rainwater pipes, sink wastes and overflow
pipes directly connected to the drain, water-closets badly ventilated,
and a variety of other minor defects which had to be remedied.
